Saudi Arabia Regulators Request Access to BlackBerry Messenger

RIM have issued a statement recently to Arab News saying that they are investigating reports in the local press that Saudi regulators have asked for access to BlackBerry Messenger for security concerns. Reports last week said the Communication and Information Technology Commission (CITC) has asked RIM to allow the telecommunications regulator access to monitor messages sent by BlackBerry Messenger. It will be interesting to see how RIM responds to this as they move towards doing business in China. If a precedence is set, allowing government organizations access to BlackBerry email and services, companies and individuals alike will be concerned.
