From time to time, some BlackBerry users might experience a severe lag, or even complete lack of functionality when attempting to connect to GPS for location based services. Luckily, there is a hidden test application buried within the device that can diagnose and repair your GPS connectivity by reconnecting to the satellites. Immediately after the process is complete, you should notice a significant improvement in the time it takes to connect, and for those of us who lost functionality altogether, should be pleased to find it connect within mere moments.
This process will work on any BlackBerry handset that features GPS connectivity, as long as your carrier hasn’t locked out the feature.
Go to options
Enter the Status menu
Type in ” test”, the Device Self Test Application will launch
Press menu and select Start
Check off GPS, and click Run
Head outside to ensure the best results, click the trackball/trackpad and select Start Fixing
If the feature is enabled on your device, it will take a few moments and display a list of results, in addition to the message “GPS fixing succeeds!”
To exit the application, click your trackball/trackpad again, this time selecting Next
Select Yes, the application will display a list of reports documenting the tests you performed.
Press the return key to exit, and open your favorite GPS-based application. In only a few short moments, you should be connected and ready to go!
