New and Improved Gmail Plug-in Released for BlackBerry

gmailAfter a long wait and much anticipation RIM has finally released an enhanced Gmail plug-in. Don't rejoice just yet as the new update still has some minor issues.

One thing we have been waiting for was a two way sync feature between the BlackBerry and the desktop. Unfortunately we will have to wait a little longer because this version only has one way sync capability. This means we can only sync from BlackBerry to desktop and changes we make while on our computer won't sync back. There also seems to be an issue for OS 5.0 users. They are receiving an error that their device does not meet system requirements.

A big issue I had with the older version was the inability to receive emails instantly. I did a test with the new plug-in and sadly that seems to still exist. It's almost like you are better off sticking with using the generic BlackBerry service instead.

Besides some of the previously mentioned issues the update does feature some nice changes. We now have the ability to sync our Gmail contacts into our BlackBerry address book which is a plus. Some other nice additions are the ability to add and remove labels and stars on messages, report spam email and archive email messages.

To download the new enhanced Gmail plug-in visit blackberry.com/gmail from you BlackBerry browser. It is important that you read the instructions before you download.
