Free BB App: face2face Combines LinkedIn, Facebook, And MySpace Into A Single BlackBerry App

I just installed face2face, a cross platform, location aware, social networking client from Promimate Global that combines Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter networks into a single client as well as ads consolidated chat between face2face users, on my BlackBerry, and, although I’ve only played around with it for about 5 minutes, it seems to be a pretty slick app thus far.

face2face is a location-aware smartphone app that solves the problems of privacy and safety that have become synonymous with social networking – so that more people can benefit from the advantages that come from knowing which friends are nearby.

I probably won’t enable any of the location aware aspects of face2face, and I will probably keep using a dedicated Twitter client on my device, however, face2face could be a candidate to replace Facebook for BlackBerry and LinkedIn for BlackBerry. I can’t say for sure just yet, however, I am impressed with speed and the interface of the app and if it allows me to effectively git rid of Facebook which is slow, and replace LinkedIn which is large, face2face, my find a permanent home on my BlackBerry Storm 9530 which is memory starved.

Vonage Mobile App for Blackberry Review

This is one of these apps that you get and say “Damn….why didn’t I get it before!”. Vonage Mobile for Blackberry has been out for over 6 months already and to be honest, I had never looked into it. The first thing that comes to my mind when I think of VOIP is carrier limitation. Well yesterday after reading Jason’s post about Skype’s update enabling you to place calls over 3G, I decided to do some research for available VOIP apps for the Blackberry and stumbled across Vonage Mobile for Blackberry.

Download was simple..just had to enter my mobile number on their site and Vonage sent me an SMS with the OTA download link. Once the app installs, you can create an account directly from your Blackberry. Vonage currently offers 2 rate plans, Pay per use or Unlimited International Calls at $24.99/month to over 60 countries. If you already have a Vonage home service, you qualify for a $10/month discount so you would actually be getting Unlimited International calls from your cellphone for $14.99/month.

What I really love about this app is that you don’t need to go into the app to place a call. Once the app installed any time you dial a long-distance number from your Blackberry, it will automatically run it through the Vonage Mobile service. What’s also great is that the calls are not placed using data but using your cellphone plan so no weird robot like voices. The device actually calls the Vonage Gateway number which then reroutes your call. You can also add the Vonage Gateway number to your AT&T A-List so all calls that are handled by Vonage won’t eat up your minutes.

No matter where you are in the U.S., if you have cellular service, you can use Vonage Mobile for cellular international calling.

Call Time Tracker Application Review: a Great Way to Track Your Day

During WES 2010 in Orlando, I had the good fortune to meet the folks from Widality – the people behind the Call Time Tracker application and the momentem monthly subscription service. This was an especially exciting show for them as, at exactly the moment that the exhibition closed, they hit 100,000 registered users on their service. Since coming back home from WES, I have been trying out the Call Time Tracker application on my BlackBerry Bold 9700. This is an excellent application with the potential to help professionals track their hours and record costs. Here’s a little bit of what the application has to offer, and my own opinions on the user experience.

After each email or call duration, the Call Time Tracker application pops up with a window asking if you would like to tag the most recent activity.

At this time you can either create a new contact to tag the activity to, or you can log the time/expense against an existing contact and project that you have already created. If you choose not to log the activity at that point, the Call Time Tracker application has a feature called the “Not Now List” which allows you to come back and review all previously unaddressed calls or emails and tag them at a later date.

The Call Time Tracker application is the free version of the award winning momentem monthly subscription service. With the addition of the monthly subscription service, power users can easily request a report from their BlackBerry at any time and see a quick overview report or have a more comprehensive Excel report generated and sent that can be used in other programs for creating invoices, billing for expenses, or tracking hours.

In my own experience over the last couple of weeks, I have found the Call Time Tracker application to be very user friendly. It is a great and yet subtle reminder at the end of a call or correspondence to seize the moment to tag the activity. It takes no time at all to complete this task. My only consideration for heavy users would be if the reminders to tag each and every call and email would be overwhelming, and that each time you choose to use the “Not Now List,” is that a missed opportunity, because you may not remember what to say about the activity when you return to it later? This was the biggest challenge for me.

Overall, however, I believe the application has great potential. The addition of the momentem subscription service to access the Excel reporting functionality is a win for people preparing invoices everywhere.

The Weather Channel BlackBerry Application – Review

The Weather Channel Application for the BlackBerry is available for Free on the BlackBerry App World Market.

The Weather Channel is a basic weather application that has a very nice user interface for a BlackBerry Application. The all blue color scheme is beautiful and a very nice break from the norm when it comes to application design. The user interface is beautiful – bright colors and awesome graphics for the weather (such as the bright sun I am seeing right now while writing this review).

There are four main screens for The Weather Channel BlackBerry application, they are RIght Now, Hourly, 36 Hour, and 10 Day Forecast.

The application does a good job at getting the information easily to the user. By using the trackball you can navigate easily up and down through the information provided which is usually, temperatures, precipitation percentage, and wind speed. The information varies from screen to screen however, depending on how many days you are looking at.

I do have two complaints about the application, however. One complaint I have with The Weather Channel BlackBerry application is the slowness of the application when browsing from screen to screen (as in from Hourly forecast to 36 Hour forecast). The problem is that it actually goes to a loading screen to load the next interface, a slow process that is annoying and slow. The second complaint I have, is that the application has advertisements. I know that they are vital to their business plan, however it takes up almost 1/4 of the screen on my BlackBerry 8330, which really hurts the user interface.

Overall, I haven’t found a better weather application yet for the BlackBerry, any other ideas for weather applications I should try? Shout out in the comments!
